Today, the core of ketchup is tomato. It is not the ketchup brand itself that has changed; but rather, the way it is made and used.
Ketchup is sold in supermarkets across the United States. In a supermarket, people are eating meals that don’t just consist of bread and cheese: they also eat take-out food from McDonald’s or sushi from Costco. Over time, these two kinds of food have become increasingly popular in American households: most households now consume them as well as bread and cheese every day and therefore need to keep a safe supply of these foods on hand at all times to satisfy their dietary needs. However, ketchup does not fit this pattern well because it does not have hot sauce like pizza or french fries do; it doesn’t contain hot peppers either.
This is what New York City looks like at the moment. It is a kaleidoscope of food and people, where everything is available – from pizza to ketchup.
In a recent interview with People Magazine, Bethenny Frankel talked about her first approval of ketchup. She said: „I was not a fan of tomato ketchup, but the thing is, my friends were eating it and the kids were eating it. I thought it was delicious, so I said 'I’m gonna put a little bit in every meal.’ „
Culture change can be defined as the process of changing people’s behavior or actions based on new information. It is an ongoing process in which people change how they think or feel about themselves and those around them, acceptance of what has changed may differ from country to country but there are some things that are always constant from one culture to another.
